Two Thousand and Twenty-Six

On this first day of 2026, I hope that we will come to remember this year differently than we remember 2025: not simply as the year that followed it, but as the end of an old story and the beginning of a new one.

The Great Turning is author David Korten’s shorthand for a planetary pivot—from an extractive, money-driven, empire-style economy to a democratic, life-centered, ecological civilization.

For each of us, may the Great Turning be the transformation we wish for. I imagine more localized economies and more humane geopolitics—maybe even another step forward on the long journey to liberty and justice for all. What transformation do you wish for?

Your Great Turning will not be the same as mine, mine will not be the same as yours, but may they all be Ours: connected, mycelium-like, part of a living system of change.
